409 + 499 Illinois

A Mission Bay Pioneer

Completed in 2008, the two six-story buildings that make up 409 + 499 Illinois were among the first new construction in San Francisco’s now booming Mission Bay neighborhood. Together, they offer some 450,000 square feet of scientific, office, and retail space, as well as nearly an acre of waterfront outdoor space that showcases public art while offering unparalleled views of the San Francisco Bay.

Office/Life Science

Envisioned as a life sciences hub, 409 + 499 Illinois was built with higher electrical capacity as well as column spacing specifically geared toward lab use. Today the project is substantially leased to FibroGen, Illumina, and the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. Below-grade parking accommodates 600 cars, while the welcoming elevated plaza offers places for people to gather and mingle.

SKS managed the entitlement, design, and construction of this project on behalf of the Shorenstein Company.
